HijackThis is a powerful and effective spyware remover designed to eliminate malicious browser plugins, browser hijackers, unwanted software, worms, and most adware and spyware threats. Unlike many similar programs, HijackThis not only scans the file system and checks the Windows registry, system files, and running processes, but also lists all the entries that can be potentially harmful or undesired. However, this can be seen as a drawback because the program is only intended for advanced users who are able to distinguish which objects pose a threat and need to be removed from the system, and which do not. Also, it does not have an updatable database of spyware definitions because its main goal is to detect each suspicious registry entry and let you decide what to do with it.
What is more, the utility includes a set of security tools designed to delete malicious software components hidden as metadata on files, specified files, and Windows services. These tools allow you to detect certain objects that are not normally discovered or removed by other programs. This version features lots of bug fixes and adds the'Delete NT Service' function in Misc Tools section. It also adds an Uninstall Manager in Misc Tools to manage 'Add/Remove Software' list and includes an option to scan the system on startup, then it shows results or quits if nothing is found. It supports Win98/98SE/Me/2000/XP. |
